Press Release 3 illustrates an interesting example of: Is the Memphis Shelby County DA’s Office policy, if evidence hurts our case or if evidence helps a defendant, don’t show it to the defense?
There were additional missing letters from the Vern Braswell murder case… (aside from the character letters that mysteriously vanished and then resurfaced after 15 years)… and these additional letters were. withheld for about 10 years by trial prosecutor and now District Attorney General Amy P. Weirich. Not having this helpful evidence hurt Braswell during his murder trial.
Again, is the Shelby County DA's Office policy, “If evidence helps the defendant, don’t give it to them”?

Press Release 7 asks was a White Shelby County criminal court judge’s repeated instances of overt and covert disrespect towards Black defendant Vern Braswell, her failure to protect the integrity of withheld evidence by prosecutors, and her inaccurate conclusions used to deny this Black murder defendant, evidence of a Shelby County Jim Crow Justice system?
Braswell probably needed a 1968 "I AM MAN" sign to remind the Judge that he was a man, and NOT three-fifths of a man!
Judge seems to back off issue of hiding potential evidence of innocence because head District Attorney General Amy P Weirich’s initials were on the sealed envelope of evidence.
Judge even seemed okay with evidence in the prosecutors’ possession mysteriously disappearing.

Background
Vern Braswell was convicted of murder in Memphis, TN in 2005 for the 2004 death of his wife after they engaged in erotic asphyxia during consensual sex…
She was alive, although not feeling well when it was over, and eventually died hours later that night while in their Jacuzzi tub…
Fast forward 15 years later…
The Resurfaced Evidence
In July of 2020 following a George Floyd “kneeling” by the Memphis legal community, some of Vern's favorable evidence that had mysteriously vanished from the “secured” court clerk files 15 years ago, along with a letter of apology, was anonymously mailed to him in prison…
After an expert authenticated the resurfaced evidence, an investigation into the claims from the letter yielded bombshell evidence of Vern’s innocence, including DNA and forensic evidence that Vern had never seen…
However, less than 2 months later…
Vern's Cancer Diagnosis
In September of 2020 Vern was diagnosed with cancer in the midst of COVID outbreaks at his prison, that (at times) were killing inmates at a rate of one per week. Would Vern even live long enough to prove his wrongful conviction?
After local judge Paula Skahan refused to hear evidence on compassionate release, and after Vern's trial prosecutor (who’s now the Head D.A.) and the family of the deceased convinced officials to deny him cancer radiation treatments in a sterile
environment on home confinement, Vern documented his journey in hopes that the Jim Crow injustices done to him would not die with him…
